Ep 6 : Massages, Nursery Plans, and I Was Wrong

Welcome back to the Gray Hair & Daycare Podcast, where two dads with a combined age of 111 (and an IQ in the same ballpark) navigate the hilarious and humbling journey of parenthood. In this episode, Frank and Carlo delve into the realities of preparing for a baby, from product reviews and nursery designs to embracing the inevitable chaos and sleep deprivation.

Pregnancy Update: The Ear of Corn Stage

Frank kicks off the episode with a heartwarming update on his wife's pregnancy. Kelly has reached the "ear of corn" stage, and while still translucent (imagine the superhero possibilities!), she's starting to get a little chubbier. Her appetite is also in full swing, much to Frank's delight. He recounts a recent pizza night where Kelly out-ate him for the first time ever – a testament to the growing baby's demands!

New Segment Alert: "I Was Wrong"

In the spirit of transparency and humility, Frank introduces a new segment called "I Was Wrong." With Kelly's keen ear and sharp wit keeping him in check, Frank revisits some past inaccuracies, including the proper term for the baby's first bowel movement (meconium, not "Kryptonite"!) and the surprising difficulty of saying "mama" compared to "dada."

Book Report: The Dog Days Are Over

Frank, ever the diligent dad-to-be, continues his series of book reports on preparing dogs for a new baby. He reviews "Dogs, Bumps, and Babies" by Aileen Stevenson, which he finds unconventional and unhelpful. He also mentions "Please, Please Don't Bite the Baby" by Lisa J. Edwards, but admits neither he nor Kelly actually read it. With the dog-related literature out of the way, Frank looks forward to tackling books about actual children.

Silver Fox Mailbox: Words of Wisdom from Fellow Parents

Frank and Carlo tap into the collective wisdom of their listeners and online parenting communities, sharing advice and tips for navigating the challenges of new parenthood. Texas Redditor emphasizes the importance of mastering the art of massage (especially as the pregnancy progresses) and taking charge of the logistical aspects of delivery, including packing a "bug out bag" and installing the car seat. Christine, a loyal fan, encourages them to sleep when the baby sleeps, accept help when offered, and cherish every moment.

Crash Test Daddy: The $200 Diaper Bag

In a hilarious segment of "Crash Test Daddy," Carlo plays a guessing game with a Lululemon box. After much shaking, prodding, and questioning, he correctly guesses that it's a diaper bag – a high-end, $198 Lululemon diaper bag, to be exact. The Lululemon New Parent Backpack 17L boasts features like a changing pad, a separate compartment for supplies, and a hefty price tag. Frank and Carlo compare this luxury item to the more practical (and budget-friendly) options they used for their own children.

What Just Happened: Fartzilla Returns

Frank shares some amusing anecdotes from his week, including the return of "Fartzilla" (thanks to Kelly's increased appetite) and a humorous encounter with his pastor, who seems to have a running joke about whether this is Frank's "first." They also discuss their progress in designing the nursery, complete with hot air balloon light fixtures and a color scheme that Frank wisely leaves to Kelly's discretion.

Check, Please: The Thousand Dollar Milestone

The episode concludes with a financial update. After 23 weeks, Frank's total spending on baby-related items has surpassed the $1,000 mark. The biggest culprit? Etsy, where they purchased custom-made hot air balloon light fixtures for the nursery. Frank and Carlo discuss the pros and cons of renting larger items like bassinets to save money and storage space.

The Dadventures Continue

As always, Frank and Carlo deliver a healthy dose of humor and honesty about the ups and downs of impending fatherhood. Their willingness to share their experiences, both the triumphs and the mishaps, makes this podcast a must-listen for any parent or parent-to-be. Stay tuned for future episodes as they continue their journey into the wonderful world of Gray Hair & Daycare.
