Ep 5 : Leggings, Cravings, & Grandparent Names

Welcome back to another episode of the Gray Hair & Daycare Podcast! In this installment, Frank and Carlo tackle a range of topics, from Thanksgiving traditions to the latest developments in Frank's impending fatherhood. Buckle up for a journey through pregnancy cravings, Food Network recipes, and the eternal debate of "dad" vs. "daddy."

Thanksgiving Throwdown: Food, Football, and Family

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, Frank and Carlo dove into their holiday customs. Frank, a self-proclaimed holiday enthusiast and cooking aficionado, shared his love for big Thanksgiving dinners. While he enjoys the challenge of cooking, he admits to relying on the Food Network for tried-and-true recipes. No shame in following the experts, Frank!

The conversation then veered into the great football vs. family debate. Frank fondly recalled his childhood Thanksgivings, where the holiday was more about reuniting with his siblings than catching the big game. Carlo, on the other hand, remembers football always being on in the background, though it wasn't the main event. This year, Frank's Thanksgiving will be a football-free zone as he and Kelly head to Nashville to celebrate with his brother, who has banned all political and sports talk. Sounds like a recipe for a peaceful holiday!

Diaper Diet and Baby Updates

Frank provided an update on his "diaper diet," a weight-loss challenge he embarked on to keep pace with Kelly's pregnancy weight gain. So far, Kelly is winning, having gained 12.2 pounds while Frank has lost 11. But Frank remains optimistic and is determined to catch up. He shared his exercise routine, which includes rowing, biking, and resistance training. He's also trying intermittent fasting, though he admits to enjoying his morning coffee.

On the baby front, Frank shared that their daughter's hearing is improving, and she can now learn and recognize sounds. He even took her to a Glenn Miller Orchestra concert! Frank hopes she enjoyed the music and wasn't bothered by the loud sounds.

Book Report, Leggings, and London

This episode's book report featured "Tell Your Dog You're Pregnant: An Essential Guide for Dog Owners Who Are Expecting a Baby." Frank gave the book 3.5 out of 5 rattles, praising its inclusion of a downloadable soundtrack of baby and toy noises to help dogs acclimate to the new arrival.

The conversation then took a turn for the personal as Frank revealed Kelly's newfound appreciation for leggings. Apparently, Kelly has never been a leggings person, but the comfort and stretch have won her over during pregnancy. Frank suspects this love affair with leggings might be short-lived, though.

Frank also shared an amusing anecdote about Kelly's initial hesitation about dating a man who wears hoodies. This led to a hilarious discussion about Kelly's dating history, which included pilots, professors, and doctors, compared to Frank, who "fixed a dragon" for a living.

Cravings, Kicks, and Grandparent Names

Kelly's appetite has significantly improved, much to Frank's relief. She's been bringing snacks to work and eating more at dinner. She's even had a few pregnancy cravings, including beans on toast with breakfast sausages and a grilled cheese. Frank also shared his distaste for Kelly's favorite Christmas treat: fruitcake.

One of the most heartwarming moments of the episode was Frank's recounting of feeling his daughter's first kick. He described it as a "Christmas morning moment" and is excited to experience more of those in the coming weeks.

Finally, Frank and Carlo discussed grandparent names. Frank shared the traditional East Punjabi names for maternal and paternal grandfathers (Nanaji and Papaji) and the Polish name for grandmother (Babcia). They also reminisced about what they called their own grandparents and pondered what Frank's daughter might call him.
